THE RATS ARE WATCHING IN THE DARK
THEY’LL EAT US IN OUR SLEEP
DROWNING IN OUR OWN HOMES
CHOKING UP THE FILTH
WASTED TIME
WASTED LIVES
THERE’S THOUSANDS QUEING IN THE STREETS
FOR PITY AND FOR BREAD
DISTRACTED IN A FATAL VOID
WALKING IN A LIVING DEATH
EVERY MYTH SEEMS EXPOSED
THE GRIMACE IN THE SMILE
SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS
TO A GOD OF POWER & WEALTH
The welfare state, a thing that is slowly becoming a memory, with a far worse beast lumbering into view.
The city of Dublin is a place where poverty lives in sub-standard housing, poor quality foods, and vast sectors of the city forgotten and ignored. While homeless shelters are shut down and drug programs axed, there are deaths on the streets. So too a slow death grinds on behind closed doors. Social welfare dependency. The sedation of populations. Not life, but survival, on minimum wages, which too are a thing fast becoming a memory. Unemployment, under-employment, poor health, hospitals and resource centres at breaking point. They call it austerity. A vicious ruling class crucifying the poor. Ireland 2015.

Gaerea's first release of "Unsettling Whispers" was in 2018, and since, they dared define a "black metal" niche of their own, they dared to walk a new path and stir shit up a bit in the realm of BM, this album is a masterpiece and a milestone proving that it can be done, provided the band can pull it off, and they did, oh they did! Gloomy, dark, post-BM sludgy whatever, it's Gaerea, and this one belongs in my BC collection, the end. sachavonkarl74
